GIUD Warehousing and Purchasing Division

The Grand Island Utilities Department's Warehousing and Purchasing Division ensures that materials are available and can be obtained for the operation of the Power Plant Division, Power Distribution and Substations Division, Water Division, Overhead Line Division, and Underground Division.

This division is responsible for maintaining an inventory of supplies for the construction and repair of GIUD's electric system in.

To prepare for a severe storm or some other unforeseen event that may cause damage to the electrical system, the division maintains and extensive array of supplies and equipment for emergency use.

Included in the inventory is 1,163 electrical transformers, 87.4 miles of electrical transmission wire, 500 wood poles, plus, street lights, yard lights, cross arms for poles, and all the hardware and equipment it takes to put everything together and make it work.

Purchase orders for everything from paper clips to turbine parts to pickup trucks are processed through this department as well.

To keep the warehouses properly supplied with the materials needed to maintain the electrical and water systems, GIUD employs dedicated and experienced people to store and inventory materials, and order supplies and materials as required from hundreds of supply houses.

Location: The Grand Island Utilities Department's Service houses the Overhead Line Division, the Underground Division and the Warehousing and Purchasing Divisions of GIUD. The center occupies one cull block and is located at 1110 W. North Front Street, or about two blocks north of the City Library on West Second Street. Normal working hours at the center is 8 AM to 12 noon and 1 PM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, except holidays. If you plan to visit anyone at the service center, please call ahead to make arrangements.
