Most of the water distributed to GIUD water customers in Grand Island are pumped with high pressure pumps located at Burdick Station or controlled from Burdick Station.  Shown are Burdick HP-1 and HP-2.  HP-1 is rated at 4800 gallons per minute (gpm) and HP-2 is rated at 6500 gpm.
A large 36 inch water main distributes domestic water from Burdick Station to customers throughout Grand Island.
Burdick is home to a high pressure diesel backup water pump for domestic water. The pump is started if a large storm is in the area in case there is a major electrical outage where other pumps cannot be operated.  The rated capacity of the pumps is 4600 gpm.
